Sapporo English Conversation Newsletter #8

(この記事は、「札幌英会話ニュースレター #8」の英語訳です。)

‘Father’s Day Sale.
Maid in Japan.’ X 😢

In Japanese, the English on this sign would read 父の日セール…日本にいるメイドさん (chichi no hi seeru…nihon ni iru meidosan).

–> The correct rendering for 日本製 (nihonsei) is “made in Japan.”  √ 😇

When English speakers and people able to read English come across this sign, they might pause and think, “Hmmm.  Since they’re having a discount on maids for Father’s Day, perhaps I should get two of them?” 😬

You’ve got to be a bit careful when writing phrases and sentences in English, since even a small slip can result in a massive mistake.

Are you wondering if the English sentences you came up with for an international audience are really okay?  Well, then, you’ve come to the right place, because I can go over those valuable documents, pamphlets and signs and make sure that they are written well.

Feel free to ask me anytime if you have any questions 🌟

Happy Father’s Day!
